This internship Program represents an exciting opportunity  for interns  to gain experience with official environment, learn organizational behavior, have basic practical learnings in their educational related filed and gain experience working on an international development project.


The Intern will provide support to the DAI SHAHAR Project Staff, by performing a variety of tasks. Throughout the internship, the Intern will gain exposure to DAI and USAID methods for capacity building, project management, and economic development programs.


Assist municipal department staffs to plan and monitor the implementation of the annual procurement budget including reviewing the progress of contractual agreements, resolve issues, perform post-purchases evaluation.
Provide support to the department staff to develop technical documents, terms and conditions in coordination with the engineering, announced contracts, negotiate the prices, agree contracts terms and ensure the contractor deliver on time also maintain the documents for legal, audits, financial and administrative requirements.
Assist municipal staff to ensure that the government procurement law and procedures are applied.

Provide support to municipal staff to acquire, distribute and store supplies and also monitor and forecast stock levels.




Since late November 2014, DAI has been implementing the USAID funded Strong Hubs for Afghan Hope and Resilience (SHAHAR) project with the Deputy Ministry of Municipalities (DMM) and in up to twenty provincial municipalities across Afghanistan in order to form well-governed, fiscally sustainable Afghan municipalities capable of meeting the needs of a growing urban population.  As of November 30, 2017, the SHAHAR project will be extended for two additional years in order to continue to partner with and support DMM; to partner with and support Kabul Municipality in the core areas of administrative efficiency, client management, rehabilitation of municipal landfills, and revenue generation; and to continue to partner with and build the capacity of the four regional hub provincial capitals of Kandahar City, Hirat, Jalalabad, and Mazar-e-Sharif to serve as regional learning hubs, providing a mechanism to continue to deliver technical assistance and training to all 20 original SHAHAR partner municipalities, while also strengthening the capacity of municipal staff and systems in the regional hub provincial municipalities.

Recently completed or currently enrolled in a university graduate or undergraduate program in   Procurement, Economics, Politics, Management,  public or business administration, or other relevant academic discipline.
Oral and written fluency in Dari and English.
